Harnessing expertise for the
Airbus A350

Context & challenge

The Airbus A350 XWB (eXtra wide body) is lighter and more cost-efficient, using composite materials on its structural elements for the first time in Airbus history. For such a breakthrough, Expleo understandably wanted to be involved.

Solution & outcomes

In 2013, our teams were commissioned to carry out all installation studies for electrical harnesses on the entire A350 fuselage, on both the French and German sections. We also provided engineering support, via Airbus, to the manufacturer of the harnesses.

Client case study: Airbus

In all, 80 Expleo engineers and technicians teamed across France, Germany and Romania to carry out electrical harness design activities, configuration management of electrical schematics and project management of all activities.

Expleo also developed automation and optimisation tools to meet cost and schedule constraints. As the project ran on, we expanded our technical scope to take responsibility for electrical schematic activities and equipment design.

Fast facts

  • Cost reduction of around 25% over the last three years
  • On-Time Delivery (OTD) performance exceeding 98%

“The recognition of our people on this A350 program made it possible to position Expleo as a reference player at Airbus.”
